Supporting the Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy's mission to train foundation staff for careers in philanthropy, 2011-2014

This grant provides operational support to Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP), an organization dedicated to cultivating the next generation of grantmakers and supporting emerging leaders in this field. A group of foundation professionals and individual donors established EPIP in 2001 as an informal network of volunteers who felt that philanthropy needed a community to help its emerging leaders develop new skills and talents. Now approaching its 10th anniversary, EPIP has more than 450 members and 11 city-based chapters and is integrating its "next generation" programming and philosophy with organizations such as the Council on Foundations and Independent Sector. EPIP recently completed its first strategic plan and will use this grant to roll out various related organizational and programmatic activities, such as (1) strengthening its Philanthropology curriculum, an educational program to allow foundation professionals and trustees to develop hard and soft skills in philanthropy; (2) increasing EPIP membership; (3) expanding the number of EPIP chapters across the nation; and (4) bolstering organizational communications and technology to advance its goals.
