Supporting an evaluation and learning community of practice for multisite place-based grantmaking, 2011-2012

This grant funds a community of practice on evaluation and learning for government and private funders of multisite place-based strategies. Both government and private funders are increasingly turning to place-based strategies as a means to catalyze long-term, community-wide improvements. Complex, multisite place-based strategies often pose challenges to funders trying to determine the impact of these investments. To address these challenges, this community of practice will bring together funders from government and private sectors in a peer-exchange to share and learn from one another's evaluation practices and develop collective approaches to evaluating strategies. A consultant will support and facilitate the community of practice, which will kick off with an in-person meeting to coincide with the June annual meeting of Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO). Following the in-person meeting, participants of the community of practice will engage in a year-long series of information exchanges via e-mail, conference calls, Webinars, and two in-person work sessions. At the end of the grant, GEO will develop and disseminate a report highlighting the experiences of the community of practice.
