The Foundation's initiative, Finding Answers: Disparities Research for Change, was designed to use research and evaluation to test hypothetical solutions for reducing racial and ethnic disparities in health care settings and actual disparity reduction outcomes in ongoing programs.Within the unique setting of a perinatal quality improvement network with established enhanced care processes, this project will evaluate the added benefits of introducing a site-specific care manager at four different care centers. A randomized control trial will assess timely diagnosis and initiation of treatment for major depression and continuity of care for depression. Additionally, econometric and qualitative analyses will be completed to better understand the provider and system context in which this intervention is implemented across four study sites. Results of this evaluation will be used to understand for whom and in which systems of care this model is most successful as well as the costs of delivering this intervention.
