Supporting the track on health information technology at the 2010 O'Reilly Open Source Convention
The purpose of this project is to produce a health care track at the 2010 O'Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON). Major advances in information technology in the past decades have resulted from open platforms, such as the Internet, that enable independent developers to create innovative products. Health IT, however, has traditionally been dominated by proprietary vendor systems, which do not encourage independent innovation. OSCON is the premier gathering for open-source developers working on projects across multiple fields. This year, O'Reilly Media Inc. will, for the first time, add a health care track to OSCON to explore how open-source approaches might create opportunities for innovation in health care. O'Reilly Media will produce a 7- to 12-page summary of the track and will provide video footage of the panels for Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) distribution. In addition, it will provide RWJF's Pioneer Portfolio with branding opportunities, including credits and signage on its Web site and in program materials.
