Bringing fresh local produce to school cafeterias in Princeton, N.J., and documenting the process to share with other schools

The Princeton School Garden Cooperative will work with local farmers and chefs to develop a farm-to-school program at two public elementary schools that will: (1) bring fresh produce from local farms into schools, where local chefs will host monthly cooking/tasting sessions for students and parents; (2) distribute featured recipes to parents; (3) bring farmers to the schools for educational sessions; (4) facilitate class field trips to farms, orchards, commercial kitchens, farmers' markets and grocers; (5) work with food-service contractors to integrate fresh produce recipes into their service offerings; and (6) work with the school district to institutionalize the program into its wellness policy. Deliverables will include the monthly cooking/tasting sessions, other educational events and a documentary video on the project.
