Ascending women and girls

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Community Health Leaders program was designed to provide recognition for the contributions community health leaders make to achieving RWJF's mission and goals and to enhance the capacity of these individuals to have a more permanent and widespread impact on health care problems.This award supports Ascensions Psychological and Community Services, Inc., designated by 2009 Community Health Leader, Satira Streeter, Psy.D.Ascensions Psychological & Community Services will increase its focus on the mental health needs of disadvantaged women in Wards 7 and 8 in the southeast area of Washington, D.C. They will target outreach and the delivery of mental health services to 50 additional women and girls. The initiative will participate in health fairs and community and school activities to provide education about mental health and recruit participants for two school-based therapeutic groups for girls and a clinic-based therapeutic group for women. The program will conduct assessments and measure outcomes of the participants.
