Building a collaborative partnership to improve nutrition and physical activity opportunities for children in Cook County, Ga.

The Foundation's program, Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities: Supporting Community Action to Prevent Childhood Obesity, was designed to catalyze and support policy and environmental change projects to promote children's physical activity and healthy eating, especially in lower-income and racial/ethnic communities at greatest risk.The purpose of this project is to build a strong collaborative partnership that will lead the community in improving nutrition and physical activity opportunities to reduce childhood obesity. Deliverables include: creating a community-based partnership that becomes the voice for change and the advocate for healthy lifestyles; increasing knowledge and public awareness among community leaders, elected officials, and the general public about the importance of obesity prevention; and new initiatives, community changes, and expanded opportunities for healthy nutrition and physical activity.
