Providing rapid response funding to enable communities and groups to support, protect or implement smoke-free policies
The Foundation's initiative, Supporting Advocacy to Reduce Tobacco Use and Direct Tobacco-Related State Revenue to Health Priorities, was designed to support state and local advocacy efforts and educate policy-makers and other key audiences in up to 15 states about the need for tobacco control and other public health measures. The purpose of this project, whose goal is to increase the percentage of Americans who are protected from secondhand smoke, is to provide rapid-response assistance to coalitions pursuing smoke-free efforts. It will meet the specific needs of selected sites by providing support for media advocacy, and by supporting community organizers in managing smoke-free policy campaigns, including technical assistance on legal, enforcement and media issues.
