Examining the effect of protective and supportive school policies and programs on lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) youth

Experiencing bullying and assaults at school is more common for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) youth. This study intends to assess the extent LGB youth in Boston high schools encounter violence at school and how that experience is associated with emotional distress. The study also examines if schools adopted recommendations from the Massachusetts State Board of Education on promoting safe and supportive schools for LGB youth and the relationship between recommendation-adoption and levels of victimization and distress for youth. The dataset used in the study will be comprised of a survey of high school students in the Boston Public School system, semi-structured interviews with school officials about school programs and policies, and public records.
