Endowing the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Center for Health Policy at Meharry

This collaborative project with Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University will increase the number and diversity of those with formal training in sociology and economics who engage in research in health services and health policy. Through creation of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Center for Health Policy at Meharry Medical College (Center), Meharry will build on a successful Meharry-Vanderbilt partnership by integrating faculty and students of Vanderbilt's Sociology and Economics Departments with the Center. The Center, which will develop collaborative approaches to pressing health policy issues, will have four components: (1) the recruitment and retention of health policy students and faculty; (2) the creation of a certificate program in health policy; (3) the Health Policy Scholars in Residence program; and (4) support for student and faculty research to inform policy debates. The deliverables will be to establish the Center with a diverse student body and a faculty trained in research in health policy and health services, overseen by a team of national health policy experts.
