Technical assistance and direction for RWJF's Leadership for Healthy Communities program

The Foundation's Active Living Leadership initiative was designed to educate and assist state and local officials to understand the connections among community design, physical activity, and health. This grant supports the Leadership for Healthy Communities' National Program Office (LHC) as it expands the technical assistance provided to its grantees while it continues its work to engage and educate policy-makers in states and at the national level. In addition to supporting the formal goals and objectives of the LHC program, the program office has identified three thematic areas to focus on in 2009. The three areas include: (1) capacity-building activities; (2) a focus on vulnerable populations; and (3) engagement of additional stakeholders during this year. The NPO will host a national policy summit, an institutionalized method for engaging leaders from vulnerable populations, a new Call for Proposals, and a system for identifying supportive policy-makers nationwide in the new program year.
