The Foundation's program, Pipeline, Profession and Practice: Community-Based Dental Education, was designed to assist dental schools to increase access to dental care for underserved populations. The study will examine the financial impact of community-based dental education on dental school finances and assess the business case for increase placement of dental students in underserved communities. This project seeks to further promote broader community placements by dental schools of low-income and minority students. Increased placements of these students will aid in improving access to dental care for underserved populations and in reducing disparities in dental care. Deliverables will include case studies of four dental schools; comparative financial data from participating dental schools; and a white paper that the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation will submit for publication.
