Technical assistance and direction for RWJF's Start Strong program
The Foundation's initiative, Start Strong: Building Healthy Teen Relationships, was designed to fund a national effort to develop and implement effective strategies to prevent relationship violence among youth. This grant will provide technical assistance and direction support for the Foundation's Start Strong program. As the National Program Office, the Family Violence Prevention Fund will lead the planning and initial implementation phase of the initiative with 11 community sites within Year 2. Over the six-month planning phase, the NPO will guide the community sites in consultation with the evaluation team as they review the recommended model curricula, promising practices and policies, integrate these programs into their work-plans and assist in the design of the overall initiative's direction. The models will include school-based and after-school program curricula, mentors' curricula, model policies, environmental changes and social marketing strategies and teen engagement and leadership building strategies. A community assessment conducted by each of the sites will further define the partnerships it needs with schools and after-school programs, key decision makers and institutional partners and authorities, other community stakeholders and service providers to meet its program goals. Generating governmental leadership and public commitment will be a contributing factor in grantee success.
