Start Strong: Building Healthy Teen Relationships

The Foundation's initiative, Start Strong: Building Healthy Teen Relationships, was designed to fund a national effort to develop and implement effective strategies to prevent relationship violence among youth.Because of its strong alliances among school and community partners, and its significant challenges include high rates of poverty, immigration, and violence, the targeted location for this initiative is Northeast Austin. The project will target 3,200 students in 4 middle schools. In-school curriculum will be used in conjunction with arts and theater-based programming as well as the display of posters and public service announcements around the schools. An out-of-school curriculum will be implemented at the Boys and Girls Club in the target area. The program will also engage youth consultants to co-facilitate youth leadership groups at target schools or the Boys and Girls Club. Parents and other community members will participate in school and community events as well.
