Evaluating the reliability and validity of fitness and academic data in the Texas Youth Fitness Study

This project will assist Texas in implementing a new state law that requires high-quality, evidence-based physical education for all public school students and in monitoring the resulting effects on children. Texas will use the FITNESSGRAM, developed by the Cooper Institute, to assess children's fitness levels, including their body mass index (BMI). The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation will support quality control in the collection of FITNESSGRAM information, management of the resulting statewide database, and analysis of school factors that contribute to children's fitness and BMI levels. Deliverables will include a final report on the tests of quality control and an analysis of factors in schools that affect FITNESSGRAM results.
