Advancing Recovery: State/Provider Partnerships for Quality Addiction Care

The Foundation's program, Advancing Recovery: State/Provider Partnerships for Quality Addiction Care, was designed to support partnerships between treatment provider organizations that deliver care, and states that are in the unique role of being both the largest purchaser of publicly funded treatment services (70 percent) and regulators and licensers of those services.Alabama has created a partnership consisting of the state's Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, New Horizons Recovery Center, Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center, and The Bridge, Inc. This partnership wants to increase the provision of continuing care for the adolescent population. In this effort, the state commits to pay for continuing care for youth receiving substance abuse treatment through the Department of Youth Services and other state-funded services. The state will also work to expand the service array which will be reimbursable by DMH/MR and Medicaid to include in-home services. The providers working with the state will develop a system that transitions youth into an aftercare program in their community and will improve administrative processes related to point of contact and intake. This partnership will also increase the use of case management services for adolescents.
