This grant supports a project titled "Defining activity-friendly environments in the rural South" -- a collaborative project between the University of Mississippi and the University of Alabama, conducted in rural areas of these two states. The purpose of the project is to work collaboratively with two other RWJF-funded Active Living Research sites (University of Southern Maine [USM] and Tufts University) to develop, evaluate and disseminate both an objective and a subjective instrument to measure the rural environment and how it influences physical activity. The University of Mississippi/University of Alabama team will lead the development of the subjective instrument, while working with USM and Tufts to develop the objective instrument (USM) and disseminate findings (Tufts).
