Studying outpatient medication errors in children with chronic conditions - Kathleen E. Walsh, M.D., M.Sc.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Physician Faculty Scholars Program was designed to strengthen the leadership and academic productivity of junior medical school faculty who are dedicated to improving health and health care.The purpose of this project is to: (1) describe the range of types of medication administration errors and barriers to effective home medication administration among children with chronic conditions; (2) to measure rates and types of medication errors and errors-associated systems-failures among children with chronic conditions receiving care in the outpatient setting; and (3) to develop and pilot test a systems-based intervention to prevent errors in outpatient and home medication use among children with chronic conditions, informed by the research findings.
