Planning for the Consumer Voices for Coverage program
The Foundation's program, Consumer Voices for Coverage: Strengthening State Advocacy Networks to Expand Health Coverage, was designed to support state-based consumer health advocacy networks to increase their capacity to participate in health care reform efforts with key stakeholders, such as businesses, hospitals, insurers, providers and government officials.Momentum is growing at the state level for sweeping health care reform. States that have become emboldened to push for ambitious coverage agendas include Maine, Illinois, Massachusetts, Vermont, and, most recently, California. In order to capitalize on this groundswell of activity and promote the important role that state-based consumer advocacy can play in promoting innovative and comprehensive health reform, the Foundation's Coverage Team is in the process of developing a state-based consumer health advocacy program. This grant will help the Coverage Team design a national program to strengthen the consumer health advocacy infrastructure in states which is central to the Team's strategic objective. Deliverables will include: participation in meetings, brief written materials including memos and concept papers, document review, and information gathering and analysis.
