Evaluation of Achieving Competence Today III: Interdisciplinary action-based learning on quality improvement for students in academic health centers

The Foundation's initiative, Partnership for Quality Education, is designed to train primary care residents and nurse practitioners to deliver high-quality care for patients with chronic illnesses within the fixed-budget constraints of managed care. This grant supports an evaluation of the Achieving Competence Today III initiative. The goals of the evaluation are to: identify conditions under which the initiative interventions will be perceived as offering sufficiently valuable training experiences by academic health centers so as to become an institutionalized segment of training; and discern critical determinants of decisions on the part of academic heath centers to participate, given the structure of incentives and costs offered by the initiative. The project will be considered successful if the evaluation report is useful to Foundation staff and can be disseminated to the field at large.
