Summit to address obesity and other health care issues in Mississippi
This grant provides support for the Healthy Mississippi Summit, held June 15, 2006, which convened business, education, health care, spiritual and political leaders to address the causes of chronic diseases in Mississippi--specifically, poor diet and lack of physical activity. The goal of the summit was to improve wellness where Mississippians live, work and learn. The summit stems from the Mississippi delegation's participation in the National Governors Association's Healthy America initiative. Approximately 1,200 attendees participated in interactive sessions on replicating successful environmental and policy change strategies for preventing childhood obesity in Mississippi. This project will be considered successful if several public policy initiatives and goals for preventing childhood obesity are advanced.
