The recent rash of scandals in the corporate world, government, nonprofit organizations, athletics, entertainment, universities and churches has eroded public trust in institutions essential to a civil society. The purpose of this project is to establish and endow a research and education program in ethical leadership intended to identify and help correct the causes of this emerging national crisis. The program--the General Robert Wood Johnson Program in Ethical Leadership--will be housed in the Arthur W. Page Center for Integrity in Public Communication, a research unit in the College of Communications at The Pennsylvania State University dedicated to the study and advancement of ethics and responsibility in corporate communication and other public communication. The annual proceeds of the endowment will be used to support research and educational activities that build upon and perpetuate the philosophy of the Credo, written by Robert Wood Johnson, and educate future generations of leaders, students and academics about the Credo. The heart of this project will be the establishment of a venue for studying and perpetuating the spirit of the General's words.
