Leadership development is frequently used as a strategy to help prepare individuals and groups to handle complex challenges successfully. There is currently no resource that collects and presents what has been learned from the myriad of leadership programs about how to develop and support leadership strategies and evaluate their impact. The purpose of this project is to create a handbook of leadership development evaluation. Major activities of the project will include: (1) a conference of leading scholars and practitioners who are interested in contributing chapters to the handbook; (2) writing chapter drafts; (3) a second conference of chapter authors and thought leaders in the field to hone the draft; and (4) publication of the handbook by Jossey-Bass. The project will be considered successful if a cogent and useable handbook is produced that can guide evaluators of leadership development programs to a variety of innovative and evidence-based methodologies.
