Helping children make better food choices in the school environment

In response to the growing epidemic of childhood obesity, many communities have made a commitment to finding solutions that might be replicated in other communities. An expert advisory panel is helping to improve the environment for healthy food choices in eight schools in the Chicago, Illinois, school district. The purpose of this project is to provide technical assistance and several mini-grants to some of the eight pilot schools. The project will be considered successful if the technical assistance promotes policy and environmental changes that improve food choices of children in schools. This project represents an opportunity to evaluate the benefits of technical assistance provided by a national organization of state networks where this model might be replicated on a larger scale.
