Although interprofessional communication can increase the quality of patient care and public health, there is insufficient interaction among the health professionals, beginning with their education in profession-specific silos. This grant supported the 11th Congress of members of the Association for Academic Health Centers (AAHC), held June 7-8, 2004, in Washington, D.C. The Congress permitted reflection on whether some competencies may be essential for all health professions, regardless of discipline or practice venue. All papers presented at the Congress will be published in a book disseminated at no cost to all conference attendees, AAHC members, other educators, and leaders in health professional education. The project will be considered successful if Congress proceedings are widely disseminated.
