Paths to Recovery: Changing the Process of Care for Substance Abuse Programs

The Foundation's initiative, Paths to Recovery: Changing the Process of Care for Substance Abuse Programs, was designed to strengthen the addiction treatment system's ability to successfully use process improvement techniques toward increasing patients' access to and retention in addiction treatment programs. The purpose of this project is to meet client demand for services efficiently and effectively using existing staff and funds. This can best be accomplished by adopting process improvement techniques. Thus, more existing resources will be available for meeting client needs for easy access to and early engagement in treatment services. Specifically, the project will focus on reducing wait times, improving organizational processes, and developing skills to utilize process improvement techniques on an ongoing basis throughout the entire agency. According to research, no-show rates decrease when intake appointments are made within 48 hours. By improving access and retention, more people in Barnwell County will receive the help they need when they need it and have more local services available.
