Hablamos Juntos: Improving Patient-Provider Communication for Latinos

The Foundation's program, Hablamos Juntos: Improving Patient-Provider Communication for Latinos, was designed to demonstrate and assess institutional interventions to provide medical interpretation and translation services for Latinos who have limited English-speaking abilities. This is a planning grant under Hablamos Juntos, a program to explore models of increasing access to medical interpretation for limited English-speaking patients, and develop explanatory signage and print materials within health care institutions. The purpose of this project is to address provider-patient language barrier issues for Latino patients at four points of intervention: interpreter issues, standardization of materials and signage, bilingual staff, and physician provider communications.
