The Foundation's program, Paths to Recovery: Changing the Process of Care for Substance Abuse Programs, was designed to strengthen the addiction treatment system's ability to successfully use process improvement techniques toward increasing patients' access to and retention in addiction treatment programs. This grant supports an evaluation for the national program addressing the organizational and systems barriers to access, quality, and efficiency within substance abuse treatment agencies. The national program will fund 16-20 substance abuse treatment organizations to implement redesigned admission and care processes, in order to reduce wait time for access to care, improve patient flow, and increase client retention. The evaluation will include multiple methods to address a variety of questions about the extent of and strategies for agency systems change, as well as to measure the key outcomes of improved access and retention for substance abuse clients.
