Improving prevention and treatment programs for alcohol and tobacco use

The Foundation's Innovators Combating Substance Abuse program was designed to highlight substance abuse as the nation's number one health problem by recognizing those who are striving to bring creative solutions to the field of substance abuse. The purpose of this project is to gather a multidisciplinary and multicultural team of student and faculty researchers who will analyze and integrate data to improve and target prevention and treatment programs in the areas of alcohol and tobacco use. In addition to internal studies and literature review, this team of scholars will seek new ways to integrate theory, research, and practice with at-risk adolescents. The work will be hypothesis-generating and include meetings among various leaders in diverse projects on a common theme. A collaborative discovery process is envisioned with the next generation of stages of change work as a possible consequence.
