Campaign to broaden understanding of and support for health services research

While most people understand the need for biomedical research, the importance of Health Services Research--which looks at the organization, delivery and financing of health and health care services--is less well understood. As a result, the field of Health Services Research (HSR) is underfunded and underutilized. The purpose of this project is to help launch a two-year educational campaign targeting policymakers, health care decision makers, purchasers, providers and the media to build awareness and support for HSR. If successful, the campaign will broaden awareness of the contributions HSR can make to improving health and health care and secure additional funding for such research. The Academy for Health Services Research and Health Policy, which is devoted to advancing HSR and health policy, will serve as the home for this effort. It has already committed $25,000 to this effort and is seeking to raise about $500,000.
