Expanding a health initiative to increase physical activity among at-risk children

Structured activities that include exercise are an important component of a healthy childhood. Unfortunately, many children and adolescents do not have the opportunity to participate in such activities because of access, cost, or availability. This grant to the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF) provides support for a special health initiative which emphasizes physical activity for at-risk children. WTEF hopes to expand this special health initiative and incorporate it into all of its core programs. This special initiative fits within a recently adopted five-year strategic plan to work with and track WTEF participants from third through twelfth grade. The project will be considered successful if WTEF is able to expand its "high impact" programs and provide more opportunities for at-risk children to continue in its programs. WTEF is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the life prospects for D.C. area youth from lower income communities through tennis, education and life-skills activities.
