Encouraging employer support for tobacco control and prevention policies

As recognized by national tobacco control experts, employers have a critical role to play in tobacco control and prevention. First, employers are the primary sponsors of health insurance, and secondly, they manage the work site environment where many adults spend a significant amount of time. Yet, many employers are not fulfilling their potential in reducing the harm associated with tobacco use. The purpose of this project is to help reduce national tobacco use by encouraging employers to adopt policies and programs known to discourage tobacco use and help users quit. The project will be considered successful if more employers adopt or strengthen proven tobacco policies, thereby reducing national tobacco use, especially among working adults.
