Supporting Families After Welfare Reform: Access to Medicaid, SCHIP, and Food Stamps

The Foundation's program, Supporting Families After Welfare Reform: Access to Medicaid, SCHIP and Food Stamps, was designed to help states and large counties solve problems in eligibility processes that make it difficult for low-income families to access and retain Medicaid, the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), or Food Stamps, particularly families moving from welfare to work. The purpose of this project is to maximize enrollment of adults and children in Medi-Cal and Healthy Families through the improvement of County eligibility processes. Two enrollment goals will be completed by June 30, 2004: (1) San Bernardino County will increase its Medi-Cal caseload by 15 percent; and (2) San Bernardino will increase its Healthy Families caseload by 5 percent.
