The Foundation's program, Active Living Resource Center, was designed to improve health by encouraging collaboration among planning, health, and non-traditional entities for the purpose of designing activity-friendly communities.The purpose of this project is to reach out to state and local agencies including professionals through presentations at national meetings and state-level conferences to increase awareness and understanding of the impacts of their programs on physical activity and public health. In addition, the organization will recruit new experts to help foster more activity-friendly actions, through development and pilot testing of a new "Institute on Creating Walkable and Bicycle-Friendly Communities." Finally, there will be a one-year focus on providing technical assistance to local communities and states on improving and expanding opportunities for bicycling and walking through a Web-based training program with access to resources as well as personal and on-site technical support.
