Counseling program for youthful offenders
This grant will help support the Youth Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery (CARE) Program. CARE will take Camden County adolescents out of Jamesburg Prison and provide treatment at a facility in South Camden. Adolescents will receive substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling, basic skills training, recreation, job placement and leadership building opportunities. The purpose is to treat the adolescents' addiction and put them in a position to earn their GED or graduate from high school, rather than graduate to the adult prison. The program will enroll 48 adolescents released from Jamesburg during the grant period. The program will be considered successful if it can better integrate these adolescents into society and keep a majority of them from returning to prison.
