Development of a public television series on physicial activity
This grant supports the development of a PBS television series that uses an appealing and practical format that displays to viewers the benefits of a more active lifestyle. The core message will be the Surgeon General's "30 minutes of moderate accumulated physical activity" (with an emphasis on walking). In addition, discussion around the policies and environments that promote active living will be highlighted. The program will launch in fall 2001 and will consist of 13, 30-minute episodes. The project will be considered successful if the series receives at least a 60 percent carriage by PBS stations (a potential reach of 600,000 people per episode), beginning to move viewers to become more knowledgeable about physical activity-related issues as measured by viewership and use of associated Web sites.
