The Foundation's SmokeLess States: National Tobacco Policy Initiative is a program that supports development and implementation of comprehensive statewide strategies to reduce tobacco use through education, treatment, and policy initiatives.The purpose of this project is to incorporate tobacco policy initiatives into the Partnership's current agenda. These initiatives will focus on clean indoor air policies at the local level and voluntary policies in private businesses and workplaces, utilizing the 31 diverse community coalitions throughout the State. The goals are to: (1) increase the number of smoke-free public places and workplaces; (2) create a public awareness campaign addressing the effects of environmental tobacco smoke; and (3) increase the tobacco excise tax.
