Health Education Center on Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention: Building a national college alcohol prevention movement

College binge drinking has received a great deal of attention over the past few years and this has pressured schools to act. Many have moved forward individually with fragmented, uncoordinated efforts lacking a research base. Others, eager to act, have lagged behind for lack of leadership, knowledge, skills, and/or support. The purpose of this project is to: (1) build a national college alcohol prevention movement through a set of activities that will provide schools and communities with a common vision of prevention; (2) develop leadership; (3) maintain pressure on colleges and communities to act; (4) build infrastructure and capacity for schools and communities to develop, implement, and evaluate environmental-based prevention approaches locally, regionally, and statewide; and (5) provide training and assistance for those engaged in these prevention efforts.
