Developing a guide to treatment programs for adolescent substance abusers
For those seeking drug and alcohol treatment for teenagers, there is no resource currently available that identifies adolescent-specific treatment programs and provides other needed information on content, cost, treatment philosophy, and other issues. This project will produce and disseminate a comprehensive guide to adolescent substance abuse treatment, including elements of effective treatment, detailed information on specific programs, identification of promising programs, and other information. The guide will be produced with input from a panel of nationally recognized experts and linked to evidence-based practices. The format will be accessible to a wide range of users, including families, practitioners, and adolescents. Further, the guide will be available in hard copy and via Drug Strategies' Web site and other health-related Web sites. If successful, this project will for the first time provide critically needed information for parents, families, and their health providers seeking effective adolescent drug and alcohol treatment. The guide will, thus, help guide decision making based on evidence and solid assessment of programs, rather than panic and fear.
