Conference to train member hospitals in injury prevention
This grant to the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions, Inc., (NACHRI) will fund the materials development and the intensive training of at least 40 NACHRI member hospitals. The professional gathering is intended as the first phase of replicating the Harlem Injury Prevention Program model with participating NACHRI member hospitals. The project will be conducted in two phases. During Phase I, training and technical assistance materials will be identified and reviewed. Additional materials will be developed and customized for NACHRI members. Phase II will focus on the regional leadership teams, represented by each of the participating hospitals. Evaluations of readiness for implementation, disseminating program manuals and the production of a post-conference document that details the conference proceedings are part of Phase II funding. Phase I and II funding will permit at least 40 hospital and community teams to be trained in the collection of injury data, reflecting the status of childhood accidents in local neighborhoods. Anticipated deliverables of the project are: (1) development of appropriate materials for program training, public education and local implementation efforts; (2) training and self-assessment of one-fourth of all NACHRI member hospitals and community hospitals on developing injury data surveillance systems and prevention programs; and (3) publication and dissemination of a post-conference training manual. This project will be considered successful if at least 35 of 40 hospitals and their communities are able to design data collection plans reflecting local childhood injury issues.
