This grant supports the organization and facilitation of a second Building Bridges expert-planning meeting. On July 12, 2000, the Foundation held a meeting with representatives of different sectors (e.g., planning, transportation, building, public health) to discuss how to get these groups to work together toward creating active community environments. Meeting participants recommended that the Foundation convene a similar meeting with representatives of cross-sector advocacy groups to explore the possibilities of incorporating a public health orientation into their current work. Some of the objectives of this meeting include learning who the advocates are, how they are organized and what they are advocating for; identifying issues and priorities of the different advocate groups; learning about barriers to cooperation between groups; and understanding how they currently work together and identifying possibilities for future collaboration.
