Evaluating a program to prevent teenage pregnancy and promote youth development
Youth development initiatives are being explored nationwide to help communities address high rates of teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and drug and alcohol use. Youth development connects teens with a positive social milieu and may protect them from health risks. The purpose of this project is to join a multifoundation effort to evaluate the Girls Incorporated's Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy Program. This program has a strong youth development curriculum and is currently being implemented in more than 1,000 sites in the United States. The randomized trial will provide unique information on the effectiveness of youth development programs and will complement the federally funded study of the Abstinence-Only Education Programs. Products will include results from quantitative outcome research and a rich qualitative process study.
