Examining the validity and usefulness of the Internet as a tool for collecting and providing health information
The Internet is an emerging and powerful tool for consumer choice and influence in the care process. This new medium, however, has raised questions about its validity and generalizability, and little work has been done to test alternative ways of recruiting individuals to participate in online assessments. This project will pilot the feasibility of collecting quality data online, making comparisons on a provider-specific level, and evaluating alternative methods for promoting participation in an on-line performance assessment. The project will be conducted with a state purchaser and provider coalition and a statewide health plan in Maine.
