This grant supports a symposium on Medicare reform from an economics perspective. The project will include a centerpiece paper describing the financial problems facing Medicare, the history of reform efforts, the Breaux and Clinton reform proposals, and an economic analysis of strengths and weaknesses of each proposal. In addition to the centerpiece paper, four other papers will comment on the issues by focusing on selected special topics. These papers will be revised for publication in the Journal of Economic Perspectives.
