Analyzing state data needs for monitoring the uninsured

State-specific data on trends in coverage is critical in the policy debate over whether and how to increase access to care. This grant supports analyzing state needs for data and information that could be used to document the case for expansion of state access programs and to evaluate the impact of state and federal policy changes on the number of uninsured in a state. The project will: (1) describe what data states currently use to monitor access and its limitations; (2) identify key state policy questions with regard to access and the data needed to answer them; and (3) consider alternative options for monitoring changes in coverage at the state level over time. This information will be used for the purpose of planning a technical assistance effort to help states access and use existing data resources.
