Public education campaign on childhood vaccinations

This grant supports the development of a targeted communications and outreach effort to parents and policymakers to ensure that children continue to be immunized. The project, called the Vaccine Initiative, is designed to counter the increasing level of media attention that tends to exaggerate the risks of vaccines, thus raising fear in parents. There is concern that this fear, combined with the virtual disappearance of many serious childhood diseases, could remove the motivation for parents to immunize their children. Grant funds will support the planning phase--surveys and focus groups of key stakeholders to develop messages and design strategy. Findings from this phase will guide the design of the implementation phase.
