This grant supports the next stage of development of the "Ribbon of Promise" campaign, which was a response to a school shooting in Springfield, Oregon, that left 4 students dead and 27 injured. The project supports a grass roots effort to end violence in schools that was begun by local fire and safety professionals who responded to this tragedy. The purpose of this project is to end school violence through awareness, information, referral, prevention, and if necessary, triage. The principal objectives are to: (1) create public awareness of violence in schools; (2) establish a resource center to provide information on youth violence; (3) identify and develop promising approaches to end school violence; and (4) develop triage tools for communities should another violent episode occur.
