Conducting issue briefings on health and health care policy for policy-makers, journalists and national organization officials

The purpose of this project is to continue the Foundation's on-going effort to inform Washington policy-makers and journalists on issues of importance to the Foundation through briefings organized by the Alliance For Health Reform. This grant supports eight half-day seminars on the Hill and four briefings at the National Press Club over a two-year period. Topics will be relevant to legislative staff, newsworthy and fundamental to the work of the Foundation. Possible topics include: legislative responses to changing health markets, the treatment of mental illness and substance abuse by managed care organizations, the status of Medicare+Choice, federal and state efforts to expand access to health coverage, especially for children. A printed issue brief on each topic will be produced for each half-day seminar, providing balanced information and a list of top experts, including Foundation grantees. The seminars and briefings will serve as vehicles to showcase individual grantees and Foundation-funded research. The Foundation and the Alliance may employ portions of public opinion survey data for specific briefings. Funds will support Alliance staff as it researches and convenes panels, writes and publishes briefs.
