Replication of a model health care delivery management program in rural New York State

The Foundation's Workers' Compensation Health Initiative is a program of demonstration and evaluation projects aimed at containing costs and improving the quality of care provided to injured workers.North Country On The Job Network (NCOJN) is a voluntary community-based managed care network for injured workers. The goals of NCOJN are to provide more timely access to appropriate medical treatment for injured workers and to reduce total workers' compensation costs for area employers. The objectives of this project are to: (1) establish a system for data collection and analysis to assist in program evaluation, identify injury trends, and provide feedback on company and provider performance; (2) design education programs for NCOJN employers, employees, and physicians which address prevalent industry-specific injuries; (3) formalize the NCOJN's administrative structure and develop funding mechanisms; and (4) determine whether this model has widespread applicability by replicating the NCOJN model in an adjacent rural community.
