Study of the impact of price and control policies on smoking initiation and cessation
The Foundation's Substance Abuse Policy Research Program was designed to provide support for investigators to conduct policy research on a variety of subjects directed at helping the country reduce the harm caused by substance abuse.This project will investigate the determinants of the decision to start and quit smoking. Specifically, this project will examine what impact state and local cigarette prices, state excise taxes, state and local clean indoor air laws, and policies limiting youth access to tobacco have on smoking initiation and cessation.
